Air Force Specialty Codes (Jobs) in Need Every quarter, the Air Force publishes the Air Force Stressed List. If your main interests are parte of this list, you are increasing your chances to be able to enter as long as you meet all of the entry standards for military servic e. The Air Force requires higher ASVAB scores than the other services generally as most of the jobs in the Air Force are in the highly technical realm of training. This Stressed List is determined by jobs in the Air Force that need filling with new recruits, more senior airmen, or officers as well. As of 2017, there were 50 jobs in the Air Force that were listed on the Stressed List. In fact, pilots are extremely undermanned to the tune of nearly 2,000 as of 2018.In fact, there are programs considering highly qualified enlisted airmen to attend flight school, similar to the Army Warrant Officer Pilot program to fill the needs of the Air Force. Air Force Facts The Air Force welches created in 1947 under the National Security Act. Prior to 1947, the Air Force was a separate Corps of the Army. The primary mission of the Army Air Corps was to support Army ground forces. However, World War II showed that air power had much more potential than simply supporting ground troops, so the Air Force was established as a separate service. As mechanical, computers, and aviation/rocket design advanced, so did the Air Force evolve into what is today- a significant part of the United States Strategic Defense posture. There were about 325,000 Air Force personnel on active duty at the end of 2017. The primary mission of the Air Force is to defend the United States (and its interests) through the exploitation of air and space. To accomplish this mission, the Air Force operates fighter aircraft, tanker aircraft, light and heavy bomber aircraft, transport aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and helicopters, which are used mainly for the rescue of downed-aircrew, and special operations missions. The Air Force is also responsible for all military satellites and controls all of our Nations strategic nuclear ballistic missiles. Just how important is the Air Force to our defenses? Well, if you consider the most strategic defense policy in our arsenal- the Nuclear Triad Strat egic bombers, Inter-Continental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs), and submarine-launched ICBMs- the Air Force owns two-thirds of that vital security mission. The Air Force receives a large part of the Department of Defense budget and it is estimated that it will likely cost more than $250billion dollars to upgrade the Air Force components of the Nuclear Triad. With the entire Department of Defense budget being in excess of $600 billion in 20182019, you can see that the Air Force is still considered a highly important branch of service in the defense of our country.The proposed Air Force budget is $156.3 billion for the fiscal year 2019.This upgrade of the Nuclear Triad will be a decade-long project more than likely. This core competency is critical for every function from management to ausverkauf, finance, customer service, and human resources. People who succeed, your superstars, understand that to accomplish their work mission, they must build colla borative relationships with key employee alliances. Diagnostic Information Gathering When a problem occurs in your organization, a high potential person with this core competency sets out to solve it analytically. She not only fixes the problem but gathers information that explains how the problem happened in the first place. It involves talking to people, asking questions to get information, not jumping to conclusions, and making a well-reasoned decision. This core competency is especially critical to senior leaders in human resources and customer service roles. Both require intensive information gathering, even in situations when people arent willing to immediately offer up the whole truth. Technical Expertise This core competency has become increasingly more important. The idea that a person who is at the top of the organization needs to have her emails printed out is laughable today. But technical expertise is so much more- a person with this competency looks for technical solut ions to complex problems but also understands that technology doesnt solve everything. She keeps up with technological changes in her field and isnt afraid to learn new skills. As technical expertise continuesto change rapidly, a person only has this core competency if shes willing to learn constantly. So, look for an individual who is technically savvy and not afraid of change. Self-Confidence A successful leader needs to have confidence in herself. Self-confidence also means that you can respond to correction or negative feedback without becoming completely devastated. An employee who has self-confidence speaks up when needed and keeps her mouth shut when its not necessary for her to speak up. If an employee is willing to speak up but not to shut up, thats not self-confidence. Thats a sign for you that the person isnt sure their ideas can withstand a little discussion. Or its a red flag that the person feels that their way is the only right way. Neither is a confidence builder tha t the individual has the core competency of self-confidence. You want to promote an employee who figures out what is going on now and how to handle things in the future. These are seven core competencies that apply to most businesses, but there are certainly others that may apply to yours. Identify the core competencies that are the ones critical to your business. Then take a look at your current employees and identify which employees have these skills and put them on your high potential track.
